Three Scientific Benefits of Having a Cat
1. Cat owners are smart.
A 2010 survey of British pet owners by the University of Bristol found that people who owned cats were more likely to have college degrees than their dog loving counterparts. In 2014, a researcher in Wisconsin surveyed 600 college students and found that cat owners were actually more intelligent as well.
2. Cats lower your stress.
Cats can have a positive effect on your anxiety level. One study showed that over a 10-year period cat owners were 30% less likely to die of a heart attack than those without a cat.
3. Cats help you sleep better.
A study from the Mayo Clinic Center for Sleep Medicine showed 41% of the people studied indicated they slept better because of their cat, while only 20% said it led to disturbances.
